Sakhariya Residence

Project Name : Sakhariya Residence
Area : 8400 Sq. Ft

Location: Vadakara, Calicut

Design Team: Shiju Pareed, Akhil, Afiz

Year of Completion : 2022

Nestled between courtyards, verandahs, and lush green plantations, this serene five-bedroom residence is designed for a multi-generational family seeking harmony between tradition and sustainability. Each room opens out to a “green lung”, a courtyard, balcony, verandah, or patio, allowing natural light, cross-ventilation, and thermal comfort to flow continuously throughout the home.

Following a sustainable design model, the residence reduces dependence on artificial lighting and mechanical cooling. At its center, a double-height open space forms the heart of the house, drawing in air and light across the interiors. Meanwhile, eastern sunlight gently filters through narrow planter beds near the kitchen and breakfast area. On the other hand, the western and southern facades remain shaded by verandahs and courtyards. At the entrance, a tranquil water body cools the incoming breeze and greets visitors with calm simplicity.

Inside, the open ground-floor plan seamlessly connects living, dining, and lounging areas, while a vertical volume visually anchors both floors. Moreover, each bedroom, placed in its own corner, enjoys privacy and unique views of greenery. A detached office overlooks the entrance, positioned above the car porch at the southwest end.

Materiality plays a defining role in shaping the experience. Beige marble floors and teakwood accents complement grey stone cladding and understated furnishings. Additionally, warm tones of white and wood balance contemporary greys, while selective lighting adds a jewel-like sparkle throughout the interiors. As a result, the outdoors and indoors blend effortlessly, blurring boundaries and creating a home that feels both grounded and alive, a true celebration of air, light, and space.
