DOTAND OFFICE

LOCATION:

CALICUT, KERALA

This is our contemporary and iconic architectural studio building, "Dotand," that reflects the vision and identity of the architecture firm. The building aims to stand out as a heroic structure in its urban context, situated on a corner plot along Silk Street in Calicut Beach, Kerala. The design juxtaposes modernity with tradition, creating a memorable architectural landmark while harmonising with the surrounding architectural landscape.

The design implemented limited yet contemporary material palette that includes polished concrete and stucco ceiling for common areas, Italian marble for reception seating, and wooden flooring with composite wood panelling for private spaces. Incorporation of indirect lighting and polished veneer storage to enhance warmth and richness. The design employs floor-to-ceiling joineries with slim aluminium profiles and fluted glass to maintain privacy and brightness. Strategic window placement maximises natural light penetration.

The design draws inspiration from the potential of rectangular spaces, showcasing their versatility through strategic architectural and planning decisions. This approach celebrates the site's inherent strengths while achieving both functional efficiency and aesthetic appeal.

The Dot and Architecture Studio project briefly calls for the creation of a dynamic and visually stunning architectural studio that embodies the firm's identity and values. Situated on a corner plot in Calicut Beach, the studio's design concept involves overlapping volumes with a tilted orientation, offering added functional spaces with ample natural light. The studio's interior showcases a careful selection of materials, emphasising a contemporary yet warm ambience. The lighting strategy combines natural illumination with minimalistic artificial lighting, contributing to the overall atmosphere of the space. The final design aims to stand as a testament to architecture's potential to harmonise modern innovation evolving across traditional cities.
