Set in the serene coastal town of Mahe, Kerala, the Demeur Residence reinterprets classical architecture for modern living. The home embodies a pursuit of balance — between grandeur and intimacy, and between the permanence of tradition and the adaptability of contemporary family life.
Rising from a quiet neighborhood, the residence evokes timelessness through its proportions and detailing. Yet beneath its classical silhouette lies a layout crafted for contemporary comfort. As a result, the design bridges eras and enhances everyday livability.

As you enter, the home unfolds with grace. A console table in the foyer offers an understated prelude to what follows. To the left, the space opens into a double-height living room where a richly detailed ceiling draws the eye upward, emphasizing both scale and symmetry. Consequently, this central volume becomes the heart of the home — open, light-filled, and deeply connected to family life and outdoor views.
The dining and family living areas flow seamlessly from this space, ensuring both visual and physical continuity throughout. Meanwhile, to the right, a wood-clad library provides a counterpoint — intimate, grounded, and tactile. Here, warm timber tones wrap the walls, ceiling, and floor. Moreover, large openings connect the room with the garden, blending introspection and nature.

The ground floor demonstrates how traditional planning principles can evolve for modern routines. Two bedrooms with classical furniture and textured wall finishes flank the living spaces, thereby merging formality and comfort.
At the center sits the prayer room, adorned with carvings and textured paint, forming the spiritual core of the home. Adjacent to it, the kitchen and pantry deliver pragmatic efficiency, while the maid’s room discreetly supports the household’s daily rhythm. In this way, the plan balances functionality and grace.

Stepping outside, the pool and landscaped court extend leisure into the open air. Reflections from the water animate the interiors and soften the classical composition. Furthermore, the outdoor setting infuses the home with the relaxed rhythm of tropical living.
The upper level continues this spatial rhythm with equal refinement. Two additional bedrooms carry the design language forward through textured walls, curated art, and subtle detailing that emphasize continuity rather than repetition.
An upper living area overlooks the double-height hall below, thereby strengthening the sense of connection between floors. Nearby, a home theatre introduces a contemporary layer, creating a private enclave for family relaxation. In addition, strategic cut-outs and internal vistas preserve openness and togetherness even as the home ascends vertically.

Material expression defines the residence’s identity. Marble floors add brightness and refinement, while wood finishes bring warmth and grounding. Likewise, thoughtfully articulated ceilings — with mouldings, curves, and concealed lighting — lend each room a sculptural quality.
Even utilitarian features such as the staircase become opportunities for design. The combination of marble, wood, and metal creates a composition that feels both elegant and enduring. Consequently, every element contributes to a cohesive architectural language.
Ultimately, the Demeeur Residence stands out for its restraint. It avoids spectacle and instead celebrates proportion, material, and craft. Therefore, the result is a home that feels timeless yet deeply personal — where classical aesthetics and modern sensibility coexist in perfect balance.
