Design Team: Shiju, Afsath, Rujineesh, Hafiz

Location: Calicut

Winding through the city streets, you notice it first: a building that seems to move. Its curved facade, clad in shimmering metallic louvers and warm timber slats, catches the shifting light. Instead of shouting for attention, the Oshin Hotel draws you in with its dynamic yet serene presence, a calm landmark amidst the urban chaos.

Once inside, the experience continues seamlessly. The lobby extends the language of the exterior, with earthy tones and polished surfaces creating a space that feels expansive yet intimate. Light filters softly through the flowing curves, and as a result, the design avoids the stark coldness often associated with modern architecture. Here, beauty and utility are inseparable, giving the hotel both grandeur and warmth.

Furthermore, the guest rooms shift the narrative toward personal comfort. Sunlight streams through wide windows onto rich wooden floors, balanced by calming neutral tones. Minimalist furniture and warm, layered lighting create a sense of retreat—practical yet luxurious. Every detail, therefore, feels intentional, ensuring functionality never overshadows comfort.

At the same time, the building’s skin, a crafted interplay of metal and wood, does more than define its appearance. In response to the hot, humid climate, vertical louvers reduce glare and heat while promoting ventilation. Thus, this integration of performance and aesthetics not only establishes the hotel’s distinct identity but also enhances sustainability. True longevity, after all, comes from buildings designed to endure—practically, emotionally, and visually.

Ultimately, the central idea was to create a modern urban oasis: a place of tranquility for guests that remains rooted in the rhythm of the city. Influenced heavily by its dense setting and climate, the design blends efficiency with artistry. In the end, every curve, material, and light source was carefully chosen to serve dual roles, merging technical necessity with visual impact. Oshin Hotel is not just accommodation—it is a timeless landmark shaped by light, texture, and thoughtful design.
