In the heart of T. Nagar, Chennai, Saravana Stores continues to draw crowds. Known as a one-stop shop for decades, the store recently took a bold step forward. It renovated both its Premium Silk Section and the building’s front, blending tradition with modern design.

The Premium Silk Section was completed in just two weeks of design work and eight weeks of execution. While the store remained open throughout, the team made most of the fit-outs off-site. As a result, they saved time and avoided major disruptions.

From the moment visitors step inside, the design feels rooted in South Indian heritage. A carved Yazhi sculpture welcomes them at the entrance. As they move further, they notice polished teak wood, detailed carvings, and ceiling panels inspired by temples and palaces. However, the space isn’t just beautiful, it’s also practical.

Wide aisles make movement easy. Soft seats allow customers to sit while exploring sarees. Meanwhile, the lighting plan does more than just brighten the room. Spotlights and custom-made panels help highlight both the architecture and the silk collections. As a result, the products always stay in focus.

To balance the rich interiors, the building’s new exterior takes a different turn. It uses clean glass walls and a large LED screen. This screen displays brand stories, product videos, and festive messages. As people pass by the store, they immediately notice the bright visuals and modern design. Through this, the brand connects with younger shoppers while staying loyal to its roots.

Several challenges came up during the project. For instance, mixing old-style design with modern needs required smart planning. So, the team used CNC technology for detailed carvings and sourced skilled local artisans. They also reused old materials and furniture to reduce waste.

Overall, Saravana Stores now offers more than just products. It provides a thoughtful shopping experience—rich in culture, yet fit for today’s world.
